HISTORY OF A

TRADITION

Every great story has a beginning, and we are delighted to share ours with you.

IT ALL STARTS IN...

The Solokoetxe neighborhood, located on a hill above the Old Town of Bilbao.

The history books of our town mention the existence of a farmhouse called “Solocoeche” (“garden house”) at the end of the 19th century, until the Provincial Council planned the construction of a working-class neighborhood and a hospital in its place.

THE BASICS…

In the mid-20th century, our polvorones began to be made in a small workshop in this picturesque neighborhood.

With a simple recipe, but with great dedication, professionalism, and daily effort, a product took shape that would eventually become a Christmas classic in our land.

THE WINGED COMPANIONS...

Already in 1953, at dawn, Patxi would collect the freshly baked polvorones from the oven and place them in the basket of his bicycle to distribute them to various places in Bizkaia.

The little birds “chimbos” greeted him every morning with their unique song, and on the return from his deliveries, he would see them fluttering around the bicycle, searching for crumbs of the polvorones with which they delighted themselves before their retreat.

THE ICON...

This light, discreet brown little bird with a swift and dynamic flight is part of the history and culture of all the people of Bilbao.

In 1994, it became the symbol and emblem of Polvorones Solokoetxe, representing the image and pride of our family business.
